Bishop arrested at foiled NUP Independence Day prayers

The raid on NUP is happening as the country celebrates 61 years of independence from Britain rule.

Security agencies manned by the police and the military continue to make arrests at the foiled Independence Day prayers that had been organized by National Unity Platform(NUP).

“Bishop William Tomusange who had come to join us in prayer for the souls of our comrades whose lives the regime ended has also been arrested. He joins comrade Pastor Muwanguzi Andrew, and other leaders who were taken in earlier,” NUP president said in a social media post.

Earlier, NUP Secretary General Rubongoya and Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi and other party members were arrested and continue to be under police custody.

Social media pictures and video trending show the military and police personnel brutally arresting NUP members.

The raid on NUP is happening as the country celebrates 61 years of independence from Britain rule.

President Yoweri Museveni is leading the national celebration at an event in Kitgum district.
