MPs slam Muhoozi’s military-only leadership claims

John Musila (Bubulo East) mocked the people who had abandoned NRM to support Muhoozi, saying this group has been nipped in the butt and praised Muhoozi for taking the right direction of backing his father for Presidency.

A section of MPs has protested remarks by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Commander of Defence Forces, that Uganda will only be led by the Military, and not civilians, arguing that such remarks violate the democratic principles that give Ugandans powers to determine who their leaders should be.

The lawmakers expressed their views during media interviews at Parliament, although some NRM MPs claimed that Muhoozi’s endorsement of President Museveni for Presidency has left the Opposition in shambles, with no catchy line to campaign against NRM on grounds of nepotism as has been the case before.

“Let me hope that he knows that what he said is unlawful but he can do so with impunity given the fact that his father is the President, so he can break any law. By mentioning that a Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) has endorsed his father, are you not embarrassed as a Ugandan? A serving Army officer endorses a political participant in a politically partisan and partisan political context,” remarked Medard Ssegona MP Busiro East/

He added that there must be something fundamentally wrong, highlighting that one; with the person making the statement, two; with the endorsee himself who is the Commander in Chief and the country.

Sseggona also thanked Muhoozi for endorsing President Museveni, arguing that this gives the Opposition an opportunity to compete with someone well versed with the rules of the game, and proposed the return of Muhoozi back to the barracks with all other soldiers if military rule is what they want to impose on Ugandans.

“I want to thank my brother for leaving us to deal with someone we are familiar with. The game is always interesting if you are dealing with someone familiar with the rules of that particular game. For Muhoozi to say he is now supporting the dad and calling on his followers to do the same of course is unlawful but in their family, breaking the law hasn’t just started and it didn’t start with him. Their home is full of violators of the law,” argued Ssegona.

John Musila (Bubulo East) mocked the people who had abandoned NRM to support Muhoozi, saying this group has been nipped in the butt and praised Muhoozi for taking the right direction of backing his father for Presidency.

“There are those who are lumpens, people who simply think that they can benefit out of chaos-opportunists. In political language, we call them lumpenproletariat. And it isn’t good for the country. Muhoozi defuses what other people were saying from the Son, it is a kingdom, it is hereditary, now, where are they? Nipped in the butt, clearly. So to me, he has taken the right direction and that is the way to go,” noted Musila.

“I told you that I came to Parliament and swore my allegiance to the NRM Party and the President of Uganda, so, until he gives me direction as my Party head, where would I go? Opposition is now in shambles, they should now fold their mats and simply chicken out into the kitchens. Because the reasons for which they would stand are that he is bringing the son, they are playing comedy,” added Musila.

Charles Tebandeke (Bbale County) asked Ugandans not to mistake Muhoozi’s pronouncement as an end to his Presidential ambitions, arguing that the team fronting him realized he still needs more teaching on essence of Presidency, thus the need to return him to the bakery for more baking (grooming) before he is finally unveiled to the Presidency.

He described Muhoozi’s remarks as mere confusion, arguing that matters of who shall be President can’t be determined by one person, and neither can they be determined by mere feelings and affiliation.

“For Ugandans who think Muhoozi has abandoned the idea, no, it has just been put on the bakery stove, so the bakery hasn’t properly baked him for Presidency, but it is what they are fostering on. So, we need to stand as Ugandans and defend our rights and return the rule of law that is a unit of respect to democratic rule,” said Tebandeke.

Twaha Kagabo (Bukoto South) welcomed Muhoozi remarks and asked his supporters not to abandon him, but rather embrace his transfer from the Opposition to the NRM in the 2026 elections.

“It is very timely; the season is on because people have ploughed their gardens politically. As Kagabo, a person who sits closer to the conclave, I was privy to this, I made my signings already, I made my signings already where next season, I will be playing for NRM, not any other opposition parties, my jerseys, my place, have already been finished. My supporters rejoice to conquer, we are winning again, this time with a different shirt. It is going to be a yellow shirt, embrace the transfer,” said Kagabo.
