Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed reports claiming that Ugandan diplomats were expelled from the United Kingdom due to involvement in human trafficking.
The Ministry labeled these claims as “misleading information” and confirmed that no Ugandan diplomat has been declared persona non grata in the UK, a key requirement for expulsion under Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The Ministry further clarified that human trafficking is the illegal transportation or coercion of individuals for forced labor or sexual exploitation, emphasizing that no Ugandan diplomat has been linked to such activities.
Permanent Secretary Vincent Bagiire challenged those spreading the false allegations to provide evidence of any expulsion.
This comes after reports surfaced accusing a senior Ugandan diplomat of operating a human trafficking ring in the UK by smuggling Ugandan women under the pretense of hiring them as domestic workers. The diplomat has denied the accusations, calling them fabrications.
