Legends Marathon returns with a bigger and bolder 2025 edition

This year’s theme, “RUN FOR YOUR LEGEND,” encourages participants to dedicate their run to someone who inspires them – a sports hero, a family member, or even themselves. Each runner’s race bib will have space to write the name of their chosen legend.

The Legends Marathon 2025 has been launched at Legends Rugby Grounds, Lugogo, in Kampala. The launch marks the beginning of an even bigger and more impactful second edition, Event Director Andrew Mwanguhya said.

Mwanguhya revealed that this year’s marathon will take place on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Legends Rugby Grounds. He explained that the marathon is a powerful platform for athlete career transitions, talent development, and the growth of Uganda’s sports tourism industry.

“The Legends Marathon is more than just a race – it’s a movement. Our vision is to build a legacy where every athlete, whether retired, active, or aspiring, finds opportunities beyond their sporting career.”

The 2025 edition will feature a 42km, 21km, 10km, and a 5km fun run, ensuring inclusivity for all participants.

A major highlight this year is the launch of Athlete Career+, a year-round transformative programme designed to equip athletes with essential life skills, including financial literacy, entrepreneurship & business training, job placements & internships, mentorship & life skills coaching, sports coaching & mental health support, modern farming & agribusiness and media & broadcasting skills.

While net proceeds from the marathon will directly support the Athlete Career+, contributions to the programme remain open year-round. The marathon will always serve as its flagship celebratory, competitive, and awareness event, giving participants a chance to have fun while making a difference.

This year’s theme, “RUN FOR YOUR LEGEND,” encourages participants to dedicate their run to someone who inspires them – a sports hero, a family member, or even themselves. Each runner’s race bib will have space to write the name of their chosen legend.

The launch event brought together elite and recreational runners, retired and active athletes, running club captains, corporate partners, and media – all united by the marathon’s mission to transform lives through sport.
