Anitah Among defeats Kadaga in NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) race
The decisive win strengthens Among’s grip on both parliamentary leadership and her influence within the ruling party’s top organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC).

Speaker of Parliament Anitah Annet Among has been declared winner of the highly contested race for the NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) position, securing a landslide victory over her rival, former Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
According to official results announced today, Among garnered 11,680 votes, dwarfing Kadaga’s 902 votes out of the 12,582 valid votes cast. The decisive win strengthens Among’s grip on both parliamentary leadership and her influence within the ruling party’s top organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
The contest had attracted national attention, being widely viewed as a political duel between the current and former Speakers of Parliament. Kadaga, who once held significant sway in both the legislature and within NRM ranks, had sought to reclaim a place in CEC. However, the overwhelming margin reflects the ruling party’s shifting dynamics and Among’s growing dominance.
Observers say Among’s victory consolidates her authority not only as Speaker but also as a central player in shaping NRM’s strategy ahead of the 2026 general elections.
NRM officials hailed the process as transparent and peaceful, despite the race being one of the most closely watched contests of the party’s internal elections.
