Besigye sent back to custody as legal battle continues”

The pair has been held on remand since November, after being abducted from Nairobi, Kenya, and charged with security offenses and treason in the General Court Martial.

Veteran opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye and his aide, Hajj Obeid Lutale, appeared before the High Court Civil Division in Kampala, requesting their release from custody.

The pair has been held on remand since November, after being abducted from Nairobi, Kenya, and charged with security offenses and treason in the General Court Martial.

However, last month, Uganda’s Supreme Court ruled to halt the trial of civilians in military courts, allowing Besigye’s legal team to file a habeas corpus application.

Judge Douglas Singiza ordered that Besigye and Lutale be returned to custody and adjourned the hearing for procedural matters.

This development follows growing concerns over Besigye’s health, with his lawyers accusing the government of intentionally delaying his release.
