Bobi Wine’s bodyguard, 3 other NUP supporters granted bail
Kavuma and the co-accused were arrested on 5th November 2022 and detained at unknown places until they were taken to Old Kampala Police and then Mengo Magistrate Court where they were charged with malicious damage to property.
The Magistrate Court in Mengo Wednesday granted bail to Bobi Wine’s bodyguard, Jamushid Kavuma, and three other National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters following their arrest on 5th November 2022 in Kampala, Uganda’s capital.
“I am happy to share that Kavuma Jamushid was finally released on Court bail yesterday following his abduction over a month ago. It has been a long and difficult journey for him, but he has shown great resilience and strength,” Bobi Wine, the leader of NUP said on Thursday.
“He says there are still many others being held against their will in safe houses. We must continue to fight for their freedom. We must remain steadfast in our efforts to bring an end to these senseless acts of violence and injustice,” he added.
Bobi Wine noted that Kavuma’s ordeal is a reminder of the ongoing struggle faced by many NUP supporters across the country. “We must condemn the perpetrators of these heinous crimes, and demand that they be brought to justice,” he added.
Kavuma and the co-accused were arrested on 5th November 2022 and detained at unknown places until they were taken to Old Kampala Police and then Mengo Magistrate Court where they were charged with malicious damage to property.
Yesterday, they were given a cash bail of Shs200, 000 and a Shs2m non cash bail for each of the sureties.
