Defence Minister Mateke dies of suspected cardiac arrest

Mateke was the founder of the Nyirabashitsi Foundation, an initiative aimed at providing educational support to underprivileged children. She also chaired the Board of Trustees for Metropolitan International University and previously served as the Assistant Town Clerk of Kisoro Town Council.

Sarah Mateke, the Kisoro Woman Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, has passed away from a suspected cardiac arrest, a family source has confirmed. She died on September 7,2024.

Born on July 15, 1974, in Chahi sub-county, Kisoro District, Mateke was a dedicated politician, educationist, and philanthropist. Her political journey spanned over a decade, serving as the woman representative for Kisoro District from 2011 to 2016 and again from 2021. In 2021, she was appointed Minister of State for Gender, Labour, and Social Development.
