Education ministry suspends all school trips and excursions
According to the directive, the suspension will remain in force until further notice as the Ministry of Education and Sports undertakes a review of the current policies governing school trips and educational excursions.
The Acting Minister of Education and Sports, Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, has suspended all school trips and excursions across Uganda with immediate effect.
This decision follows the tragic road accident involving pupils from King David Junior School, Ndejje, in which 20 children lost their lives while returning from an educational trip to Kapchorwa.
According to the directive, the suspension will remain in force until further notice as the Ministry of Education and Sports undertakes a review of the current policies governing school trips and educational excursions.
The ministry said the temporary measure is intended to allow for a comprehensive evaluation of existing guidelines to ensure the safety, welfare and proper management of learners participating in such activities.
All schools have been instructed to halt the organisation and implementation of trips and excursions until the review process is completed and new guidance is issued.
The Ministry has not indicated how long the review will take but said further communication will be provided once the assessment of the existing policies is concluded.
The directive takes effect immediately and applies to all schools across the country.
