Police intensify search for suspected gay recruiter
Concerns regarding allegations of the recruitment of minors into homosexuality within schools have remained a subject of debate and discussion in Uganda.
Police have intensified efforts to locate William Kamya following allegations that he and a wider network may have been involved in recruiting young people into activities authorities are investigating.
The move follows a complaint reportedly lodged by the family of an alleged victim in Wakiso District, prompting police to launch investigations and announce a broader crackdown.
The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola, confirmed that investigations are underway into allegations of recruitment activities in schools following growing public concern.
“We are investigating reports of activities in schools that have generated public concern. We are pursuing individuals believed to be central to these allegations involving young people,” Ochola said.
He added that anyone with information that could assist in the investigation should report it to the authorities, assuring the public that all information would be treated confidentially.
Concerns regarding allegations of the recruitment of minors into homosexuality within schools have remained a subject of debate and discussion in Uganda.

Government officials and lawmakers have in recent years launched investigations and introduced measures targeting activities they say promote homosexuality in educational institutions.
Uganda’s legal framework regarding same-sex relations remains a matter of national and international attention following the passage of the Anti-Homosexuality Act. Authorities continue to enforce provisions of the law and have encouraged the public to report suspected violations.
However, human rights advocates have expressed concern over the impact of the law on individuals within the LGBT community.
“People have gone back into hiding, people have gone back into the closet. People are getting arrested and some have reportedly faced violence from mobs. There is also concern about extortion by some law enforcement officers,” said Frank Mugisha, an LGBT rights activist.
The issue continues to generate debate, with supporters arguing that the law protects social values, while critics raise concerns about human rights and personal safety.
