Beyond the Brooms: Namulondo links cleanliness to better health in Buyende
The residents asked Namulondo to champion the elevation of Kabonge Health Centre II to a Health Centre III, saying the upgrade would improve access to healthcare services for people in the area.
The Buyende District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Sarah Namulondo, joined residents in the district to participate in the National Cleaning Day exercise on Saturday.
She called on communities to make cleanliness a shared responsibility.
Namulondo stepped out in her constituency alongside residents as part of efforts to promote proper hygiene, sanitation and responsible waste management in communities.
Speaking during the exercise, Namulondo urged citizens to actively participate in keeping their homes, workplaces and public spaces clean, saying a clean environment is essential for the health and well-being of communities.
“A clean environment is a responsibility for all of us. I appreciate the public for embracing the National Cleaning Days. We remain steadfast in ensuring a clean and healthy environment for all people living in Uganda,” Namulondo said.
She emphasized that efforts to improve sanitation should begin at household level, with every individual taking responsibility for proper waste disposal and maintaining a clean environment.
“To achieve this, every person must play their role. Effective waste management starts with me and you at household level,” she added.
Residents Seek Upgrade of Kabonge Health Centre II
During the exercise at Kabongo Trading Centre in Iringa Parish, Nkondo Sub-county, Budiope West Constituency, residents used the opportunity to present some of their pressing community concerns to their area Woman MP.
The residents asked Namulondo to champion the elevation of Kabonge Health Centre II to a Health Centre III, saying the upgrade would improve access to healthcare services for people in the area.
The request comes as communities continue to call for improved health infrastructure and services closer to where they live, particularly in rural areas.
Namulondo listened to the residents’ concerns and pledged to support efforts aimed at improving service delivery in the constituency.
Police Calls for Continued Community Participation
Meanwhile, Uganda Police officers in Buyende District who worked alongside residents during the National Cleaning Day exercise urged the public to maintain the momentum beyond the official cleaning activities.
Police called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and participate in community cleaning exercises every last Saturday of the month, targeting homes, workplaces, trading centres and other public spaces.
The police said sustained community participation in sanitation activities can contribute to cleaner and healthier communities while also strengthening cooperation between residents and security agencies.
The National Cleaning Day initiative is intended to encourage Ugandans to take greater responsibility for sanitation and environmental cleanliness, with communities mobilising to clean their surroundings and properly manage waste.
