Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has emerged as a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or following an impressive season, with football fans and pundits debating whether he deserves to win the prestigious individual award.
Kane admitted that his family was nervous about the result, saying his wife would prefer to know the winner immediately rather than wait for the ceremony. He also expressed a desire to know the outcome early, despite understanding why organisers keep it secret.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand named Kane as his first choice in his Ballon d’Or top three, ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Bayern teammate Michael Olise.
Kane’s growing reputation has also been reinforced by Spanish newspaper Marca, which named him its Player of the Season after a vote involving 226 journalists, media representatives, coaches, and former players. Lamine Yamal finished second, followed by Mbappé.
Former Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has also praised Kane’s impact, describing his goalscoring ability as remarkable and saying Bayern has done an excellent job since signing him. Lewandowski added that the club’s only major missing achievement last season was winning the Champions League.
Meanwhile, debate continues over whether Yamal or Mbappé can challenge Kane for the award. However, the Ballon d’Or winner has not yet been announced, with the ceremony scheduled for October 26, 2026, in London.
Kane’s recent recognition has strengthened his case, but whether he lifts football’s most prestigious individual prize remains to be seen.
