Uganda Railways introduces lunchtime Mukono train, new executive coach
The new services take effect Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a new passenger train schedule issued by the corporation.

Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has introduced new passenger train services, including a lunchtime trip to Mukono and a second evening service, as part of efforts to expand commuter rail transport and improve the travel experience for passengers.
The new services take effect Monday, August 31, 2026, according to a new passenger train schedule issued by the corporation.
Under the revised schedule, passengers travelling from Kampala to Mukono will have a new lunchtime train departing Kampala at 1:30 p.m.
The train will depart Namamve at 2:00 p.m., arrive in Mukono at 2:30 p.m. and return at 3:00 p.m.
URC has also introduced a second evening trip to Mukono, with the train departing Kampala at 5:30 p.m. and reaching Namamve at 6:05 p.m., where it departs again at 6:07 p.m.
The train is scheduled to arrive in Mukono at 6:30 p.m.
The new evening service is expected to provide commuters with an additional option for travelling to Mukono after the working day.
New Executive Coach
URC has also introduced a new executive coach as part of the changes to its passenger services.
Unlike conventional commuter services, the new executive coach has no standing option, meaning passengers using the service will be accommodated on a seated basis.
According to the new schedule, executive fares are Shs5,000 for the Kampala–Mukono route and Shs4,000 for Kampala–Namamve, while ordinary coach fares remain unchanged.
The corporation has retained other existing services, including the morning train from Mukono, which departs at 6:30 a.m., stops at Namamve at 7:05 a.m. and arrives in Kampala at 7:40 a.m.
A morning return train departs Kampala at 7:50 a.m. and reaches Namamve at 8:10 a.m., while another morning service leaves Namamve at 8:15 a.m. and arrives in Kampala at 8:50 a.m.
In the evening, an existing service leaves Kampala at 7:50 p.m. and arrives in Mukono at 8:50 p.m.
The expanded schedule is aimed at giving commuters more flexibility in planning their journeys between Kampala, Namamve and Mukono, particularly during peak commuting periods.
URC has encouraged passengers to make use of the revised services and observe the published train schedules.
