For Appearing At WAFCON, Crested Cranes Are Guaranteed To Earn Shs374m
The overall prize money of the competition has been increased from USD 975 000 to USD 2 400 000 – an increase of almost USD 1.5 million.
The financial benefits of participating in this year’s 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament in Morocco are enormous by any standard, especially for teams like the Crested Cranes, Uganda’s national women’s football team.
The overall prize money of the competition has been increased from USD 975 000 to USD 2 400 000 – an increase of almost USD 1.5 million.
The winner of this year’s edition of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022 will pocket USD 500 000 – a 150% increase of USD 300 000. Previous winners of this competition received USD 200 000.
The prize money for runners-up has almost doubled from USD 175 000 to USD 300 000 and the semi-finalists will get USD 225 000 each which has increased from USD 125 000.
Each semi-finalist will get USD225, 000, a rise from USD125, 000 while each quarter-finalist will get USD175, 000 up from USD125, 000. In the group stages, the team that will finish 3rd will get USD150, 000, a rise from USD100, 000 and the fourth team will get USD100, 000 a rise from USD75, 000.
This means that if Uganda at worst underperforms and finishes 4th in the group, the ladies will earn Uganda USD100, 000 or UGX 374,405,678 at the current dollar rate. Any progress better than the 4th finish in the group will mean more money for the team.
