Former FDC man Abdu Katuntu to probe conduct of NUP’s Zaake

Zaake was on November 29 2022, referred to the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline for misconduct by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa after an altercation between the two legislators during that day’s Plenary Sitting.

Bugweri County Member of Parliament, Abdu Katuntu, will chair the Committee on Rules Privileges and Discipline as it probes Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake’s recent conduct in Parliament. Parliament said, the probe will commence next week but didn’t the exact date.

Zaake was on November 29 2022, referred to the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline for misconduct by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa after an altercation between the two legislators during that day’s Plenary Sitting.

Zaake stood on a procedural matter and began to inform the House about the recent abduction of citizens in the central region most of whom he said are opposition supporters.

Citing the arrest of Joseph Kabuleta and that of Bobi Wine’s bodyguard, Jamsheed Kavuma, Zaake said the abduction of citizens by armed men had reached crisis levels.

He added that in November alone, hundreds of youths have been abducted and disappeared; not to be seen again since.

While Zaake was still presenting, Tayebwa interjected asking Zaake to give him a minute. Zaake insisted, asking that the Deputy Speaker allows him to finish with his submission.

This seemed to rile Tayebwa who uncharacteristically suspended the house for five minutes. When the house reconvened, Tayebwa went on a rant, lamenting and dissuading MPs from blackmailing the House.

He said he will not allow members to bring drama into the House. He warned that if any member wanted to do drama, they can go to their constituency or to the neighbouring National Theater.

Thereafter, he ruled and referred Zaake to the disciplinary committee. And now, Katuntu, who for many years was a Member of Parliament on the card of the opposition political party, Forum for Democratic Change, has been given the task to investigate and judge Zaake’s conduct.
