Grandfather, 78, defiles granddaughter in Kabale
A neighbor stumbled upon the pair in the act and immediately reported the matter to the authorities.
A 78-year-old man, identified as Edward Katarikawe, a resident of Kagona village, Kavu parish, Maziba sub-county in Kabale district has been arrested for allegedly defiling his own 13-year-old granddaughter.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, said the incident occurred in the morning hours of 11th March 2023, at around 8:00 am, in Kagona village.
Maate narrated that the victim had been sent by her mother to buy beans in the neighbourhood. In the process, the preteen girl met her grandfather along the way.
“To her horror, the grandfather forcefully dragged her to a banana plantation and sexually assaulted her,” Maate said.
A neighbour stumbled upon the pair in the act and immediately reported the matter to the authorities. The police responded and arrested the suspect before he could flee the scene.
