Gunmen overran military detachment in Karamoja, steal guns

Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police spokesperson, said that the two soldiers have been arrested for failure to protect the armory.

Attacks on military and police instalments are increasing day by day despite assurance from the government that all is well.

The government has described these attacks as petty crimes orchestrated by armed thugs.

Not even a week has passed after armed assailants attacked a quarter guard at Gadaffi Barracks in Jinja and now joint security forces in Karamoja are hunting for gunmen who last week attacked and overran a military detachment in Napak district and stole two guns.

The gunmen, who security forces are describing as warriors, reportedly attacked Naminit military detachment in Nabwal Sub County and overpowered two soldiers who were manning security before breaking into the armory where they stole two guns and 180 rounds of ammunition.

Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police spokesperson, said that the two soldiers have been arrested for failure to protect the armory. Seventy-five civilians suspected to have participated in the raid have been arrested.
