Police in Kiira region, Jinja district, are investigating the circumstances under which Susan Mutiibwa, 34 years, a dweller of Nkalange village in Busedde Sub County, Jinja district killed and buried her daughter, 7-year-old Mercy Namugaya.
After killing her daughter, Mutiibwa allegedly dug a pit in a nearby sugarcane plantation and buried the child.
Mutiibwa reportedly beat up the child to death for unknown reasons on 4 June 2022. The child is said to have sustained injuries on the head that caused her death.
Residents said Namugaya’s absence for a couple of days prompted neighbours to seek security intervention.
When police arrived, Mutiibwa gave misleading information to police detectives. She lied that she had sent Namugaya to her relatives in the Mayuge district.
Later, Mutiibwa confessed that the child collapsed dead while she was disciplining her. She buried the child stealthily because she feared public reactions.
James Mubi, the Kiira regional police spokesperson, said Mutiibwa was detained at Kakira Police Station, Jinja district.
