Justice Aweri of the Supreme Court passes away

Supreme Court Justice, Justice Ruby Opio Aweri, has Wednesday morning dies at Mulago National Referral Hospital, Chief Justice (CJ), Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo has announced.
The CJ said Justice Aweri joined the Judiciary as a magistrate grade one in 1983 and rose through the ranks to a Justice of the Supreme Court, a position he held until breathing his last.
He was appointed Judge of the High Court in 1998 and later elevated to a Justice of the Court of Appeal in 2013. At the time of his death, Justice Aweri was the Chief Inspector of the Courts of Judicature.
“The Judiciary family is saddened with the passing of Justice Opio Aweri as he has been described by many as a great towering legal mind who served the bench with boundless dedication, utmost humility and commitment for nearly four decades,” the CJ said, adding that nation will miss his noble service.
The CJ in his announcement did say what caused the death but it is believed that he has been in hospitalized for quite a while battling a yet-to-be-revealed illness.
