Kenya has proven that its democracy has come of age, Bobi Wine says in a congratulatory message to William Ruto, Kenya’s incoming president
The Supreme Court of Kenya Monday dismissed a petition by Raila Amolo Odinga challenging William Ruto as president-elect.
Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the leader of Uganda’s leading opposition political party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has congratulated Kenya’s president-elect William Ruto.
The Supreme Court of Kenya Monday dismissed a petition by Raila Amolo Odinga challenging William Ruto as president-elect.
“Throughout the campaigns, the election, and the election petition, Kenya has proven that its democracy has come of age. The region has many lessons to learn. I congratulate the great people of Kenya,” Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine said.
He also congratulated Odinga for his undisputable role in advancing democratic governance not only in Kenya but in the entire region. “On behalf of NUP, we wish the President-Elect and all the people of Kenya the very best on the journey ahead,” he added.
A seven-judge bench unanimously agreed that Ruto met the constitutional threshold to be declared the east African nation’s fifth president, putting to rest a weeks-long legal battle with his closest rival in the August 9th presidential election, Raila Odinga.
After the court ruling, a dissatisfied Odinga said that while they respect the opinion of the court they vehemently disagree with their decision today.
“We thank our supporters and Kenyans across the country for standing with us. We will be communicating in the near future on our plans to continue our struggle for transparency, accountability and democracy,”
Ruto in a one-line message he posted on social media since the court announced its ruling attributed the victory to God. “With men, it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible,” he said, quoting the Bible verse of Mark 10:27.
