Makerere University advertises Chancellor’s position

Makerere University has commenced the search for a new Chancellor. The country’s prestigious University is now inviting nominations for the said position. The successful candidate will replace Dr. Ezra Suruma who has been in the position for two terms, since 2016.
“The Chancellor is the titular head of the University, presides over all ceremonial assemblies of the University, and confers degrees and other academic titles and distinctions of the University,” the University said of the position it wants to fill.
The person to become the next Chancellor should be a Ugandan between the age of 55 and 75; should have at least a bachelor’s degree from a recognized higher institution of learning, be of high integrity, and with good public relations, not a serving Chancellor, Vice Chancellor or staff of any academic institution and not a registered student in Uganda.
“The position does not attract a salary,” Makerere University said, adding “However, the successful candidate will be facilitated whenever he/she attends to official duties and is entitled to a retainer allowance at a rate approved by the University Council.”
Interested persons, Makerere said, should submit a nomination letter with a detailed justification for the nomination, a written consent/letter of no objection to the nomination signed by the nominee, curriculum vitae of the nominee, copies of relevant academic credentials and names and full addresses of three referees.
The deadline for submission of nominations is 11th January 2024 at 5:00 p.m. East African Time.
