Uganda police have arrested Kakaire Yusuf, who allegedly impersonated a high-ranking military officer and aide to President Yoweri Museveni.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police, Yusuf “falsely claimed to be an army officer within the Office of the President” and used this fake identity to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting members of the public.
“We urge anyone who may have interacted with this individual or fallen victim to his alleged actions to come forward and report to our offices,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
During his arrest, Yusuf—who went by aliases “Major Kakaire” and “Major Asiimwe”—was found with stolen items and multiple forged identification documents.
“The suspect is currently undergoing processing and will face formal charges in court upon the completion of our investigation,” added ASP Owoyesigyire.
The police also warned the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
