Mityana residents cry over insecurity in their area, ever since police posts were merged
It should be noted that In January this year, Police closed six police posts in different sub counties of Mityana and Kiboga, following an attack by unknown assailants.
During last month, police announced the merging of at least 129 police posts in various parts of the country, as one of the strategies of cutting costs in the force and improving efficiency.
However, residents from Mityana district, are now crying out to government to come to their rescue, over the increase in insecurity in their area.
It should be noted that In January this year, Police closed six police posts in different sub counties of Mityana and Kiboga, following an attack by unknown assailants.
In same line, last month police spokesperson Fred Enaga, announced police’s move to implement the subcounty policing model, where police posts are merged into one police station at subcounty level.
However, the chairperson Ssekanyonyi subcounty in Mityana district Mende John, showed disappointment in how insecurity has increased in their area, ever since police posts were closed.
“In my area security is not good because people are not okay with the level of security. Our police stations were taken away, by government, our cows are taken every night and even pugs. So, we are calling government to respond immediately so that our people are safe and secure,” he noted.
Mende called upon government, to bring back the police posts in different villages, so as to encounter the criminals in their area.
He says a lot of property is being stolen, and hence the insecurity may end up disrupting government projects like PDM.
In a way to ascertain the level of insecurity in the area, we managed to interact with some residents of Mityana, who expressed their concern about insecurity in their area.
“My name is Kabogo Bashir. Whatever the authorities did was not right to take away police posts in our areas. Insecurity has increased in our areas. Criminals come even in nights just around 10pm. As your heading home, one has to be careful of any thugs around the roads,” said boda boda rider Kabogo Bashir.
The police leadership in November resolved to implement the sub county policing model following the successful attacks on police posts, which led to the death of police personnel and injuring of others. The attackers were varnishing with the firearms of their victims.
Currently, police are intensifying their operations ahead of Christmas. So far, 70 people suspected of committing crimes have been arrested in the areas of Kampala metropolitan.
