NRM Flag Bearer In Soroti City East Constituency By-election Herbert Edmund Ariko Promises So Much

"As the NRM, we would like to be the voice to the Voiceless. I will go to Parliament to ensure that the voice of the people in terms of services is heard."

Upon his nomination to run for Member of Parliament for Soroti City East constituency by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Returning Officer for Soroti district, National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer Herbert Edmund Ariko pledged to dedicate his term in office to monitoring and supervising government projects and ensuring that the NRM manifesto is implemented in his constituency.

“As a leader in Soroti city, the key issue on my agenda is to ensure that the NRM manifesto is fully implemented and the people of Soroti enjoy the good leadership of the NRM government,” Ariko said.

He added that in his tenure he would help improve service delivery to the people. He called for a change in the direction of the politics of the City from one that is based on propaganda to politics that is focused on the development of the region and the wellbeing of the people.

“It’s the desire and aspiration of the NRM to see that there’s equitable development, socio-economic transformation and the people of Soroti just like any other part of Uganda will enjoy equitable development. One of the core pillars of a good city is to ensure that there is sustainable livelihood and urbanization. The city must be responsive to the future generation,” Ariko added.

“We should work proactively, position ourselves and lobby for the central government intervention to transform the lives of the people,” he said. “As the NRM, we would like to be the voice to the Voiceless. I will go to Parliament to ensure that the voice of the people in terms of services is heard.” Ariko further added.

NRM’s Herbert Edmund Ariko faces fierce competition from Forum for Democratic Change’s Mostes Attan in the by-election. Ariko who lost to Attan in the 2021 election ran to court accusing the electoral election of tampering with the boundary of the constituency after two parishes where annexed to Soroti City West constituency.

The two parishes – Aloet and Opilyai – have since after the court ruling, a ruling that affected the results of the 2021 election hence this by-election, have since been re-added to Soroti City East Constituency.
