Minister of State for Health in Charge of General Duties, Anifa Kawooya, stressed that community health education will play a role in helping the country to achieve universal health coverage.
She re-echoed this Serena Hotel at an event to mark 15 years of existence for Living Goods Uganda, a non-governmental organization focused on health.
“As Uganda strives to achieve Universal health coverage by 2030, the Ministry of Health is appealing to the legislators to appropriate funds for facilitating community health workers,” she said.
She added that community health workers play a critical role in reaching health information to the population.
Chuck Slaughter, the Founder of Living Goods, noted that from 2007 to date, Living Goods has helped train supervise and support 8,246 digitally empowered community health workers.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Diana Atwine, commended Living Goods for supporting Uganda’s health sector.
She pledged her ministry’s commitment towards ensuring that some of the best practices are rolled out nationally.
Living Goods operates in 22 districts and supports the health system to deliver effective community health services.
