PROFILE: Who is Mumba Kenneth Kalifungwa, Stanbic Bank Uganda’s new CEO?
Stanbic Bank Uganda has announced Mumba Kenneth Kalifungwa as its new chief executive officer and board member, effective March 1, 2025.
His appointment concludes a challenging year-long search for a successor to Anne Juuko, who transitioned to a regional role earlier this year.
Mumba, a seasoned banker with nearly three decades of professional experience, brings a wealth of expertise in business development, risk management, and strategy across three African markets: Botswana, Zambia, and Uganda.
A Zambian national, Mumba is a qualified accountant and a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University Business School in Scotland.
His career began in accounting with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) and the Zambia Revenue Authority before transitioning to banking in 1995. He served in senior roles at Barclays Bank (later Absa Bank) in Zambia and Botswana before being appointed as CEO of Absa Bank Uganda in April 2020.
In its announcement, Stanbic Bank expressed confidence in Mumba’s leadership. “The Board is confident the bank will continue to thrive under Mumba’s leadership as we pursue our purpose of driving Uganda’s growth,” the statement read.
Mumba’s extensive experience positions him to steer Uganda’s largest lender by assets and profitability into its next phase of growth.
