Sawe Creations promotes indigenous styles at fashion showcase

In a dazzling night of style, culture and compassion, Sawe Creations hosted the highly anticipated ‘Fashion for a Cause’ event at Encanto Tapas Bar in Kisementi, Kampala, on the evening of 27 September 2023. The venue was abuzz with excitement as guests gathered to celebrate creativity, style and philanthropy.

Sawe Creations, the brainchild of the visionary entrepreneur Catherine Sawe, curated an unforgettable evening that seamlessly blended fashion, artistic flair, and a noble spirit of giving back. The event was a testament to Sawe’s dedication to promoting and celebrating indigenous Ugandan styles and patterns while making a positive impact on the community.

The night saw a packed venue, with guests reveling in the fusion of fashion and philanthropy. Sawe Creations pledged to donate ten percent of the sales generated from the event to support children with special needs in partnership with Dawn Children Center and Special Children’s Trust.

Founded in 2008, Dawn Children Center serves as a neuro-developmental and day care center and kindergarten for children with special needs and developmental delays. The funds raised from the event will directly contribute to the construction of a much-needed rehabilitation center for these exceptional children.

Encanto Tapas Bar, the chosen venue for the occasion, added a touch of Cuban and Spanish flair to the evening. Guests indulged in a delightful selection of Cuban and Spanish tapas while enjoying the fashion show and cultural experience.

Catherine Sawe, the visionary designer behind Sawe Creations, showcased a range of high-quality, hand-crafted clothing and accessories for babies and adults, as well as stunning interior designs, all infused with a distinctly African flavor. Her work exemplifies the belief that fashion is a means of embracing culture, amplifying stories, preserving Uganda’s rich heritage and strengthening community.

Sawe’s designs resonated with both the local community and a broader audience, earning her brand a well-deserved reputation for authenticity and creativity.

The ‘Fashion for a Cause’ event was a celebration with a purpose, where participants not only experienced a night of fashion and culture, but also contributed to the betterment of young lives at Dawn’s Children Center.

One of the models in the event, Balinda Musti who has been living with a skin condition vitiligo said that initiative of this nature make a positive contribution to sensitize and raise awareness of skin conditions and empower people living with disabilities in Uganda.

Another of the models involved in Fashion for a cause, Husna Kukundakwe is a para Olympian who holds six African records in para-swimming and represented Uganda in the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the fashion world.

Fashion enthusiasts, philanthropists and those seeking an unforgettable evening of style and substance joined the event, bearing witness to the power of fashion to create positive change in the world.
