SC Villa hires another Serbian as coach after parting ways with Morley Byekwaso

SC Villa, one of Uganda’s most storied football clubs, has appointed Serbian coach Milincic Nemanja as their new Head Coach, signaling a continued reliance on Serbian expertise in their pursuit of silverware.
The announcement comes shortly after the club mutually agreed to part ways with Ugandan coach Morley Byekwaso after a two-year stint.
“We believe his experience and leadership will be vital to our journey ahead,” SC Villa stated on their social media platforms, expressing confidence in Nemanja’s ability to guide the team towards success.
Nemanja joins a distinguished list of Serbian coaches who have previously managed the Ugandan giants.
Notable predecessors include Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, who enjoyed a successful spell at Villa Park from 2001 to 2004, Srdan Zivjnov (2011/12), and more recently, Dusan Stojanovic (2023/24).
This recurring trend suggests a preference for the tactical and disciplinary approach often associated with Serbian football coaching.
In his initial statement, Nemanja expressed his enthusiasm for the new role. “I am honoured and thrilled to join SC Villa, a club with such a rich history and dedicated fan base,” he stated.
“I am eager to work with the players, staff and management to build a formidable team that will challenge for every available trophy. I know expectations are high and am committed to delivering success and making our supporters proud.”

The appointment follows the amicable departure of Morley Byekwaso, announced on June 18th, 2026. Byekwaso’s tenure saw a period of transition and development for the club.
SC Villa President Omar Ahmed Mandela acknowledged Byekwaso’s contribution in a statement, saying, “We would like to thank Morley for his commitment and contribution to the club. This was a mutual decision, reached respectfully.”
While no concrete reasons were given for the departure, it is understood that the club leadership felt a change was necessary to propel the team to the next level.
Interestingly, Byekwaso’s expertise will not be lost to Ugandan football, as he has been named as part of a two-man coaching panel alongside Fred Muhumuza for the 2024 CHAN Uganda national team.
