Speaker Among proposes to turn Parliament into a digital Parliament
According to the Speaker, more Members of Parliament are currently following plenary proceedings on zoom than the ones physically in attendance in the chambers.
Speaker of Parliament Anitah Among has proposed to transform Uganda’s Parliament into a digital Parliament.
She made the remarks during a plenary sitting on Monday, May 6,2024.
According to the Speaker, more Members of Parliament are currently following plenary proceedings on zoom than the ones physically in attendance in the chambers.
“And I wonder why more people would want to be on Zoom, I think we should transform this Parliament into a digital Parliament, but I have more members on zoom than in the House,” said Among.
The Speaker’s remarks come at the time reports indicate that Parliament spends about Shs2Bn daily.
In the 2024/25 national budget, the Parliamentary Commission has been allocated Shs866.856Bn a reduction from Shs945.555Bn the Commission was allocated in FY 2023/24.
