Standard Chartered Bank has renewed its sponsorship of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon for the third consecutive year, solidifying its role as a key partner in the event. This ongoing support continues to be crucial in promoting health, athletic talent, and environmental sustainability in Uganda.

As part of this year’s sponsorship, Standard Chartered Bank has increased its financial commitment, particularly in sponsoring the prize money for both the 42 km and 21 km races. The prize breakdown includes UGX 10 million for the winners of the men’s and women’s 42 km races, and UGX 7 million for the winners of the 21 km races. Additional cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers, including special prizes for the best local talent from the Rwenzori region and for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

In addition to their financial contribution, Standard Chartered Bank is expanding its involvement in environmental initiatives associated with the marathon. This year, the bank will continue its tree-planting efforts in Kasese, as part of a broader strategy to combat deforestation and promote environmental conservation in the Rwenzori region.

Speaking at a press conference, Sanjay Rughani, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Uganda, highlighted the importance of the marathon in fostering community spirit and supporting environmental goals.

“We are pleased to sponsor the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon to a tune of UGX 140 million this year. Our increased sponsorship aims to make this marathon more lucrative and attractive for athletes, while also supporting environmental sustainability through tree planting initiatives in Kasese.”

Rughani added, “Sports have the power to bring people together, promote health, and support national development. Our involvement in this marathon is a reflection of our commitment to these values, and we are proud to contribute to the preservation of the Rwenzori Mountains and its surrounding areas.”
