Three leopards have been spotted at Soroti University in Arapai, Soroti City, raising concerns over the safety of students and surrounding communities.
According to information shared by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the animals were first sighted on Wednesday evening, November 4, with security cameras reportedly capturing three leopards in the university’s vicinity.
UWA has since deployed a specialised team to the area to track the animals and take appropriate action to ensure public safety.
Wilfred Ocen, a former Soroti University Guild President, expressed concern over the presence of the leopards, warning that their presence poses a potential risk to students and nearby residents.
The authority has urged students and residents to remain calm, avoid approaching or attacking the animals, and report any further sightings to the relevant authorities.
The incident has renewed concerns about human-wildlife conflict, as increasing human activities and encroachment on wildlife habitats continue to bring communities into contact with wild animals.
