Troubled former owner of Ssimbamanyo House Peter Kamya passes away
Businessman Peter Kamya, whose Ssimbamanyo House property was controversially sold to Sudhir Ruparelia by Equity Bank through a contested public auction, has died in a Nairobi Hospital.
In the dubious Equity-Sudhir deal, Kamya also lost Afrique Suites, a pricy property in Mutungo, Kampala.
According to the Investigator, an online news publisher, Kamya was recently rushed to Nairobi for treatment due to suspected poisoning.
The investigative website recently reported that Kamya started feeling weak about four weeks ago. He was complaining about a heavy stomach, chest pain and headache.
“After about a week, the situation worsened and this situation nearly tore apart the family. Some were for airlifting him for specialized checkups and treatment whereas others insisted on keeping him around. The latter group won,” the Investigator reported.
At the time of his death, Kamya has been enduring gruesome court battles with Sudhir and Equity in an effort to recover his properties that the bank sold off after the deceased delayed clearing a loan.
After he took over the ownership of Simbamanyo House, Sudhir renamed it Gender & Labour House. It is the building that houses the Ministry of Gender, Labour & Social Development, just above Kampala Central Police Station.
