The Uganda Driver Licensing System (UDLS) will temporarily halt operations from December 13 to 14, 2024, to facilitate essential maintenance aimed at enhancing its efficiency and service delivery.

Mr. Bageya Waiswa, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Works and Transport, announced the closure, noting its importance in maintaining the system’s reliability. “We regret any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure and appreciate the public’s patience as we work to improve our services,” Waiswa stated.

All UDLS offices will be affected during this period. The Kampala Office will close on Saturday, December 14, and reopen on Monday, December 16.

Regional offices in Jinja, Mbale, Gulu, Arua, Fort Portal, and Mbarara will shut down earlier, from 2:00 pm on Friday, December 13, and remain closed through Saturday, December 14. These offices will also resume operations on Monday, December 16, 2024.

The UDLS plays a vital role in Uganda’s transportation sector, managing driver licensing and promoting road safety. Over the years, it has introduced significant advancements, including a digital system capable of issuing driving licenses within an hour. This efficiency has earned it high praise, with the State Minister for Transport rating its service delivery at 99%.

The Ministry reassures the public that the temporary closure is essential for maintaining the system’s effectiveness. Officials have urged individuals to plan ahead and make alternative arrangements for urgent licensing needs.

The scheduled maintenance underscores the Ministry of Works and Transport’s commitment to ensuring reliable and high-quality service through the UDLS. “This brief closure is an investment in a better, more efficient system for all Ugandans,” Waiswa emphasized.

The public is encouraged to remain patient and cooperate during the maintenance period as the UDLS strives to continue delivering its exemplary services.
