Uganda gearing up to host regional procurement forum 

The Forum under the theme "open contracting as a vehicle for sustainable development", has also come when the procurement sector is fast adopting new technologies for better service delivery.

Public procurement players and business communities from across the East African region will converge at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala for the 14th annual East Africa Community Procurement Forum.

The event which will be held between the 23rd to 26th of March is open to the public and is geared at furthering the East Africa Community (EAC) integration and growing the procurement market in the region.

According to Benson Turamye, the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) Chief Executive, the Forum has come at a time when the region has new members.

The Forum under the theme “open contracting as a vehicle for sustainable development”, has also come when the procurement sector is fast adopting new technologies for better service delivery.

“Unlike the previous annual events that converged public procurement players, this edition will feature a business expo that is expected to attract 500 exhibitors,” he said.

The EAC region’s procurement regulatory authorities, oversee over 200, 000 suppliers with a combined procurement market estimated at over $100 million annually.

The four-day event will have exhibitions, panel sessions, networking events and cultural exchanges all to connect and grow the procurement market in the EAC region.
