Uganda Prisons relaxes visitation restrictions after Ebola scare
Baine said during visitations, Prisons' rules and regulations must be strongly adhered to. And other Standby Class One restrictions still stand until the 5th of February 2023.
Uganda Prisons Service has relaxed Standby Class One restrictions on the normal visitation of prisoners and acceptance of raw food items in all prison units.
This relaxation, however, doesn’t apply to Kitalya Min-Max Prison and Upper Prison Luzira. Frank Mayanja Baine, the Services Spokesperson said these are Maximum Security Prisons with institutional canteens where all foodstuff for prisoners can easily be acquired.
The restrictions were put in place to help curb the spread of the Ebola virus that the country experienced in the last quarter of 2022.
Now, the Commissioner General of Prisons has directed all RPCs, DPCs and O/Cs’ to act accordingly – to allow prisoners to receive visitors and food items.
Baine said during visitations, Prisons’ rules and regulations must be strongly adhered to. And other Standby Class One restrictions still stand until the 5th of February 2023.
