Uganda Revenue Authority demanding for One Billion Shillings to treat employees suffering from HIV, Covid-19
John Musinguzi, Commissioner General of URA made the request while appearing before Parliament’s Finance Committee to present the Authority’s proposals on the National Budget Framework for FY 2023/2023.
To treat employees suffering from HIV and AIDS and COVID-19, the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has asked the Parliament to provide them with One Billion Shillings (Shs1 billion).
This money, it has emerged, will cater to the workers of the Uganda Revenue Authority and their family members in the Financial Year (FY) 2023/2024.
John Musinguzi, Commissioner General of URA made the request while appearing before Parliament’s Finance Committee to present the Authority’s proposals on the National Budget Framework for FY 2023/2023.
Musinguzi said that although the Authority’s budget is projected to grow to Shs567.14Bn, this is less than the money required because of the Shs618.924Bn funding gap the Authority is likely to grapple with in 2023/2024.
“The requirement for extra financial support, over and above the general medical insurance, is to cater to staff and their family members affected by HIV/AIDS. This will cover unforeseen infection effects by providing a special fund to cater for staff and their family members with HIV/AIDS,” noted Musinguzi.
Regarding the fight against COVID-19, URA intends to use the Shs500M to procure items like sanitisers, soap, personal protective gear, soap, and water containers. The money will also be used for testing and treatment of staff for Covid-19.
