Ugandan chef Mama D breaks Guinness world record for the longest cooking time

The current record was 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023

Dorcus Bashema Kirabo aka Mama D, a Ugandan chef has broken the Guinness World record for the longest cooking hours by an individual.

The current record was 119 hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023 who dethroned Nigeria’s chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, also known as Hilda Baci, who cooked for 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Mama D, who started cooking on December 23, 2023, is now cooking to set her own record and has cooked for over 120 hours and served 119 meals.

“World record holder! There was always going to be a moment this was getting out of the way. However, we are still on and stronger,” Mama D posted on her X account.

However, she will have to submit evidence and wait for review from the Guinness World records team before she is announced the record holder.

According to the Guinness World Records website, there are rules mAMA dshould follow in order to break the record.

“There must be at least two items being prepared or cooked at any time,”

“A sous-chef is permitted to assist in prep work, washing up, and cleaning the kitchen area, but all the cooking must be done by the individual attempting the record.”

It should be noted that the Guinness World Records does not pay record holders but its role is to merely celebrate the world’s best, to inspire ordinary people and to entertain and inform.

“For these reasons, we do not pay record-breakers for their achievements or for carrying out a record title attempt,” reads an excerpt on the GWR website.
