Umeme: Govt not renewing our concession
The Company operates a 20 year electricity distribution concession effective 1st March 2005, from the Government of Uganda.
The 20-year concession Umeme Ltd signed with government of Uganda in 2005 will not be renewed when it expires in 2025, the company has communicated to it’s shareholders.
“The company has formally received communication from government of the republic of Uganda, notifying it that the current concession will continue to run until it’s natural end in March 2025 as stipulated in the concession agreements after which, there will be no renewal,” Umeme said in a public notice.
It said despite the development, it remains committed to performing it’s obligations as per the existing concession.
Umeme Limited is Uganda’s main electricity distribution company, listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange and cross listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
