Women encouraged to adopt government programs
Meanwhile, the Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, advised women to uptake 30 percent of the PDM funds allocated to them by the government.
The Minister for Gender, Labor and Social Development, Betty Amongi, has urged women across the country to adopt government programs to empower themselves.
The minister made these remarks while at the regional National Women’s Council Symposium held at Hotel Africana in Kampala ahead of International Women’s Day which is celebrated every 8th of March annually.
The National Women’s Council is an autonomous body whose goal is to organize the women of Uganda into a unified body and engage them in beneficial activities.
Amongi urged the leaders of this platform to mobilize women in the country and uptake all government programs like the parish development model among others.
“Last month, we sent Shs3m to districts and cities to organize women’s activities related to PDM and women’s day. Each district got shs.3m with explicit instructions that spending should be undertaken in consultation with women members of parliament,” she noted.
Amongi further encouraged women to uptake leadership positions and also work together with the chief administrative officers in various districts aiming at uplifting and unifying women.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, advised women to uptake 30 percent of the PDM funds allocated to them by the government.
“Apart from the PDM, women should also take on other women programs like the Uganda women entrepreneurship programs and all other government programs,” Magyezi advised.
These National Women Council meetings are conservative meetings held to update leaders of women in the council on how they can uplift other women.
