20-Year-Old Senior Three Student Kills 16-Year-Old Classmate & Girlfriend In Mayuge District

Police in Mayuge district are investigating the circumstances under which Ashilafu Kabalaasi, a 20-year-old senior three student at Bunya Secondary School in Mayuge Town Council killed his 16-year-old girlfriend.

The deceased was identified as Aidah Hafuswa, also a senior three student in the same school. Hafuswa’s body was found lifeless in a sugarcane plantation in Ivugunhu village, Buwaaya Sub County, Mayuge district at around 20.00hrs on Monday.

It’s alleged that the two had been lovers and spent some good time co-habiting at the boy’s home village.

Also recovered from the boy’s house in Ivugunhu village was a note permitting the deceased to take a sick leave from school on 16th June 2022.

Mugabi Fred, the head teacher of Bunya SS says the deceased joined the school as a boarding student in senior one but was later dismissed from the hostel due to her bad behaviours.

“She had bad behaviour in and outside the school but was active in class,” Mugabi said.

Clare Viola Naisanga, a close friend of the deceased told journalists that the two young lovers started getting problems when the boyfriend accused the girlfriend of stealing his smartphone.

The boyfriend reported the matter to Mayuge Central Police.

However, on Sunday 19th June 2022, Kabaalasi called the deceased and told her that he had lost interest in the case.

He requested her to return home and pick up her belongings.

But in the wee hours, Naisanga learnt that her friend had been killed.

The two, Kabaalasi and Hufuswa, have been a known couple.

Kamali Hussein, the LC3 chairperson of Buwaya Sub County urged parents to desist from renting houses for their children without proper supervision.

Bashiri Siriba, the Mayuge district police commander says an investigation and the hunt for Kabalaasi is underway.

He confirmed that the police had registered a case from Kabaalasi suspecting that the girlfriend had stolen his smartphone.
