National Unity Platform Sends 2500kgs Of Posho, Beans To Starving Karamoja

On Tuesday in parliament, Prime Minister (PM) Robinah Nabbanja revealed that a cabinet decision reached during the Monday sitting will see the finance ministry provide Shs135bn to address the famine situation in Karamoja.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi has today launched efforts to mobilize food for the people of Karamoja who have been hit by famine. Kyagulanyi also flagged off 2500kgs of maize flour (Posho) and 2500kgs of beans to be distributed among the starving families.

“Our efforts to assist fellow Ugandans living in the Karamoja region who are starving to near-death were earlier launched when President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert flagged off our first consignment of food relief,” NUP said in a statement.

Adding: “Even during times of crisis, the regime has maintained a deafening silence and has put the welfare of the populace last in favour of enriching itself with the natural resources of the Karamoja region. This is simply another proof that Ugandans are totally on their own.”

On his part, Kyagulanyi castigated the regime for only being ‘ concerned about its survival and enrichment and not the welfare of the people.’ “In a few weeks’ time, there will be reports that even the little money they are allocating to this relief has been stolen or diverted.

“That is why I want to encourage the people of Uganda to support these efforts in every small or big way to extend support to our people there. Let’s each do the little we can to save lives.”
