Sindhi Community of Uganda honours entrepreneur Harshad Barot after national medal recognition

Barot was earlier, on 26th January 2026, awarded the Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane (Grand Officer) during the NRM/A Victory Day celebrations at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The Sindhi community in Uganda has honoured prominent entrepreneur Harshad Barot with a Sindhi Pride Award, in recognition of his recent conferment of the Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane (Grand Officer) by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda, earlier this year.

The recognition highlights Harshad Barot’s growing legacy not only as a leading investor in Uganda but also as a respected figure within the Sindhi diaspora community. The award ceremony brought together members of the community to celebrate his achievements and contributions to national development.

Speaking on behalf of the family, his son and Co-CEO of Tirupati Development (U) Limited, Miraj Barot, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honour.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude. The Sindhi community of Uganda honoured my father with the Sindhi Pride Award in recognition of his achievement in receiving the Crested Crane Grand Officer Award earlier this year. This recognition is a testament to the community’s kindness and love towards him. We are truly grateful,” he said.

His daughter, Juhi Kotecha, also described the recognition as deeply meaningful to the family.

“This is a profound honour for our family, and we are truly grateful to the community for their kindness and love towards my father. We are deeply grateful,” she noted.

Barot was earlier, on 26th January 2026, awarded the Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane (Grand Officer) during the NRM/A Victory Day celebrations at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The prestigious medal is among Uganda’s highest honours, awarded to foreign nationals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the country’s development.

Born on 3rd January 1959 in India, Barot arrived in Uganda in 1993 with a modest capital of USD 150, working initially as a door-to-door trader. Through determination and entrepreneurial vision, he has grown into one of Uganda’s most influential real estate developers.

Through his company, Tirupati Development (U) Limited, he has played a key role in delivering affordable and eco-friendly infrastructure, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). His projects have contributed to job creation, urban decongestion, and the growth of rural and peri-urban economies.

Over the years, his contributions have earned him multiple accolades, including Investor of the Year 2009 (Uganda Investment Authority) for innovative real estate development, Investor of the Year 2010 for pioneering Uganda’s first bio-waste medical facility, and recognition for exemplary contribution to property development.

Community leaders noted that the Sindhi Pride Award reflects not only Barot’s business success but also his role as a bridge between communities and a symbol of the positive impact of diaspora investment in Uganda.

From humble beginnings to national and community recognition, Mr. Barot’s journey continues to stand as a powerful example of resilience, vision, and the transformative potential of inclusive development.
