Uganda eyes hosting OACPS–EU joint Parliamentary assembly

The meeting focused on preparations for the potential hosting of the international forum, which brings together legislators from Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific and the European Union to promote cooperation, dialogue and partnership

The Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), H.E. Moussa Saleh Batraki, has held talks with Uganda’s Parliament leadership on the possibility of hosting the OACPS–EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly later this year.

Batraki paid a courtesy call on Speaker of Parliament Anita Among’s successor, Speaker of Parliament Abraham Oboth Oboth, accompanied by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, who also serves as President of the OACPS Parliamentary Assembly and Co-President of the OACPS–EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.

The meeting focused on preparations for the potential hosting of the international forum, which brings together legislators from Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific and the European Union to promote cooperation, dialogue and partnership.

Oboth reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to strengthening international relations, saying Uganda remains proud of its growing role on the global parliamentary stage.

Batraki commended Uganda for ratifying the Samoa Agreement and praised the country’s leadership within the OACPS. He also acknowledged reforms undertaken to strengthen the organisation and enhance cooperation with the European Parliament.
