Stop doing government’s work, Mpuuga tells MPs
According to Mpuuga, these MPs are building maternity wards and paying for social services.
The Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga, speaking during the resumption of parliament on Tuesday called upon Members of Parliament to stop covering up for the government.
He said that the job of being an MP is now a burden rather than a service since MPs have taken on the role of government.
According to Mpuuga, these MPs are building maternity wards and paying for social services.
“On my desk, I received a request from a Member of Parliament requesting for my contribution to put street lights in his constituency. It is either an admission of the absence of government or MPs have abdicated their duty and taken on other people’s duties,” he said.
Mpuuga asked his fellow legislators to have confidence and demand that the government should deliver. He said that once they choose to suffer on behalf of their political parties, they should suffer silently.
“If we can stand together & demand that services are delivered & that the money that we appropriate is used properly, you will enjoy your job & not run away from your constituencies. If you decide to cover for your Party you will continue suffering,& please die silently,” Mpuuga explained.
While responding to the comments of the Leader of Opposition, Hon. Hamson Obua, the government chief whip, assured the public that government is present and doing its role.
Obua appealed to the MPs to do their oversight roles at the local government level.
