Two second-half goals at the Suez Canal Authority stadium in Ismailia put Uganda Hippos in the driving seat to cruise past Central Africa Republic (CAR) in the Group B first match.

Despite a late goal by CAR, the young Ugandans held on steadily to register a 2-1 win to top the group log.

The Hippos captain Isma Mugulusi scored the first goal at the 47-minute mark before John Paul Dembe scored the second goal at the 74-minute mark. Boris Gbenou scored the lone goal for CAR.

Uganda was in control much of the match but wasn’t clinical enough to kill it early in the first half. The match broke for a first half break with the score at nil-nil.
