Anne Juuko appointed Standard Bank Group Head of Global Markets in East Africa

The appointment is effective April 1, 2024 and a successor will be announced in due course.

Anne Juuko has been appointed to a new leadership role within the Standard Bank Group as Global Markets Regional Head-East Africa, Charmar News has learnt.

The appointment is effective April 1, 2024 and a successor will be announced in due course.

According to SBU, Juuko is not new to the Global Markets banking having joined Standard Bank Group twelve years ago as head of Global Markets for SBU before moving on to serve as Head of Corporate and Investment Banking Namibia, until 2020 when she was appointed CEO.

Over the last four years, Juuko has set many landmarks at Uganda’s largest bank by assets, having taken the top job at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic that was later to ravage the economy for the next two years.

When she assumed the position in March 2020, the bank’s assets were worth 6.7 trillion Shillings and have since grown to 9.4 trillion, while its market capitalization has grown from 1.33 trillion to 1.6 trillion shillings as at June 2023.

Juuko was also the first CEO of the Bank under the transformational restructuring that had commenced two years earlier, a move that created the Bank as a separate company alongside Stanbic Properties Limited, Stanbic Business Incubator Limited, FLYHUB Uganda Limited, and SBG Securities Uganda Limited, under the group, Stanbic Holdings Uganda Ltd.

When she took over, the bank had made a half-year profit jump to 134 billion shillings in 2019, and despite the effects of the pandemic, half year results for 2023 show that profits for the period grew to 200 billion shillings

Standard Bank Group Executive Head for Global Markets-Africa Kayodo Solola congratulated Juuko on the skyward deployment within the Group Africa Regions where she will oversee seven markets including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, DR Congo, South Sudan, Malawi and Zambia.

Damoni Kitabire, the Board Chairman for Stanbic Bank Uganda said, “We thank Anne and the leadership team in Uganda for the collaboration and leading their respective teams to considerable success and delivering for both our customers and shareholders.”

On his part, Patrick Mweheire, the Standard Bank Group Regional CEO for East Africa noted  that, “I congratulate and welcome Anne to the East African region; an important growth sector in the group’s business strategy. I am confident that she will succeed in her new mandate –steering the respective country teams to deliver satisfactorily on the set revenue, profitability, and sustainability goals, given her expertise, market networks, and leadership experience.”
