Bobi Wine countrywide tour, bombs scare tempt Museveni to address Ugandans

On the political side, it is expected that the President will try to respond to some of the utterances being made by Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who is toting parts of country. 

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will tomorrow, Thursday 6th Sept 2023, address Ugandans, on matters that the Presidential Press Unit (PPU) said pertains Security issues and matters if national importance.

 

The PPU divulge further into what may contain the president’s address, however, comes as after police safely detonated several Improvised Explosive Device (IED) across Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

Tens of suspects have been arrested including 2-year-old Kintu Abdurahman who was in possession of the IED.

 

Preliminary information, according to police, indicated that 5 more bombs were recovered and they are still hunting for 6 other suspects who work along with Kintu Abdurahman.

 

By time of filing this story, Uganda People’s Defense Forces UPDF has called for extra vigilance amongst members of the public, as one of the measures to curb the terrorism threats that have risen around different parts of the country.

 

According to Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF spokesperson, besides beefing up deployment around the country, citizens have to be precautious whenever they are places of worship, parks or congregations in different parts of the country.

 

“Following the safe detonation of a bomb at Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral in Kampala and the recovery of five more bombs, as UPDF we urge Ugandans to be vigilant, in times when the country is facing terrorism threats. We still face a challenge of Ugandans not being mindful about their environments,” he said.

 

Kulayigye asserts that it might be inconveniencing for every one to be checked whenever they are entering any public place, however this is to help the country at large to lessen the chances of terror attacks.

 

He called upon the media to be part in this fight against terrorism in the country, through sensitization.

 

According to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, as of Monday 4th September 2023, they had arrested 28-year-old Kintu Abdurahman, who was in possession of the IED at the Church.

 

On this note, Kulaigye highlighted that Kintu along with others are fully suspected to be members of the ADF rebel group, who just want to divert the forces in DRC.

 

Efforts to neutralise and dismantle terrorist cells are continuing, as evidenced by the successful operations against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) since November 2021. The ADF was held responsible for the attacks in Kampala during that period.

Wherever Bobi Wine has visited since his national tour started last week, he has faulted accused Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of breeding a corrupt regime, human rights abuses, a weak economy and a lack of rule of law.
