Budiope rejects Minister Milly Babalanda MP’s bid
Rejected in Kamuli where she was born, rejected in Kaliro where she is married, and rejected in Jinja, the minister has also been in rejected Buyende district.
The minister for presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda, will have to look for another constituency if her desire to become an MP in 2026 is to materialize. Rejected in Kamuli where she was born, rejected in Kaliro where she is married, and rejected in Jinja, the minister has also been in rejected Buyende district.
The minister recently made it known that she will be contesting for the post of Member of Parliament for Budiope West in Buyende district. The minister has a farm in the area which she intends to qualify herself as a resident of the area. However, the idea has been rejected.
On Tuesday 26th March 2024, ahead of the Wednesday Women’s Day celebration at Iringa Primary School in Nkondo sub-country, where the minister was to preside over as guest of honor, residents held demonstrations rejecting the minister.
Protestors in the area have strategically pinned posters on trees, houses, schools, and vehicles and are carrying placards announcing their dislike for the minister’s bid to become the next MP for Budiope West.
Budiope West is being represented by Kyoto Ibrahim Mululi in Parliament. While Kyoto is looked at as an underperformer, residents going by their displeasure exhibited in the last 48 houses are not ready to give the seat to Milly Babalanda.
Talking to the media yesterday, demonstrators said Milly Babalanda is only coming to Buyende district because she has been rejected elsewhere. “If she has been rejected by her people in Kamuli, even in Kaliro where she is married, why Budiope,” Isaac Kirya, a protestor, asked.
The residents in Budiope West believe Milly Babalanda is coming to exploit them because she is a foreigner. “We are not going to allow it to be used. Kyoto came from nowhere, and after getting the votes, he vanished. We are not going to gamble with Milly,” another protestor said.
Milly Babalanda is expected in the district to preside over the delayed Women’s Dady celebration. In her address, she is expected to officially announce her bid. She has been having meetings with community leaders in the constituency directly or through representatives.
