Corrupt Butebo CFO, Lira officials arrested by State House Anti-corruption Unit

Sources add that Mutekanga failed to answer queries and decided to run away into the neighbouring bush.

The State House Anti-corruption Unit has had a busy week netting corrupt officials in different districts in the country. Most notable was the arrest of Koowa Mutekanga, the acting Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of Butebo district in Eastern Uganda.

Mutekanga’s arrest comes after three days camping in Butebo by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit team investigating the case, sources say.

Sources add that Mutekanga failed to answer queries and decided to run away into the neighbouring bush.

“He was overpowered with the help of the neighbouring community,” a source said.

The State House unit recommended that the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) interdicts the CFO, access the system for a system audit and called for the reinstatement of Okukut James as Systems Accountant.

Okukut had been removed illegally by Mutekanga accusing him of sneaking information to security.

Meanwhile, in Lira district, the  State House Anti-corruption Unit and Police arraigned Ateng Francis, the former Principal Assistant Secretary, Lira MZO and three others on charges of Fraudulent Procurement of Certificate of title, Forgery &Uttering a False Document on Uganda Railways Cooperation land in Lira.

The investigation followed a directive issued earlier this year by President Yoweri Museveni to the Unit to investigate corruption-related allegations at Uganda Railways Corporation.

  1. For the sake of his family and friends he would have been calm and not resist the arrest. It’s a big shame and I feel sorry for him. As servants let’s try to work smart
