Deceased Serere MP, Patrick Okabe, was a remarkable leader – Speaker Anita Among mourns
Police has notified that the driver of the Fuso box body is on the run after causing the accident.
The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has described the Serere County Member of Parliament, Patrick Okabe, who died this morning, as a God-fearing legislator, a remarkable leader and a great statesman.
Among said the deceased MP was dedicated to serving his country and a champion for women’s empowerment and human right. “My thoughts and prayers are with his children, family and the people of Serere County,” Among mourned.
Okabe and his wife, Christine Okabe, perished in a motor accident on the Mbale-Tirinyi road this Monday morning.
According to traffic police, the accident occurred at 07:00 am and the MP, who was in the backseat, died on the spot.
Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic police spokesperson, noted that the accident involved the MP’s Toyota land Cruiser registration number UBK 995F and Isuzu box body registration number KCX 071K.
“The cause of the accident has been attributed to the Isuzu box body driver who was speeding. He drifted from his side to the side of the Land Cruiser that was coming from Mbale and heading to Iganga and had a head-on collision,” she said.
